The CBTF (canting bulb twin foil) system features three underwater appendages – one forward and one aft rotating foil – the "twin foils" which both rotate like a performance rudder – and a canting center strut that carries the ballast bulb. Because the center ballast strut is not expected to generate any side force – it can be canted to large angles 50° to forcefully provide righting moment. This more efficient use of the lead ballast means that half the lead of a typical performance keel can be removed from the boat. Less overall weight has tons of benefits including higher speeds, lighter loads, and a more responsive boat both upwind and downwind.
